Access Statement
The Georgian Townhouse is located in a quiet conservation area on the edge of the town centre. The house is typical of the Georgian period: accommodation spread across four floors, high ceilings and, hence, many stairs, and a lower ground floor. These historic features, together with its listed status, make the house unsuitable for wheelchair users and make access difficult for those with limited mobility. A ground floor room is available.
Pre-arrival
- The house is located within a mile of both train stations – Northgate and Castle – and the bus station. Taxis are normally available at Northgate station and a taxi from Castle station or the bus station can be ordered for you
- The house is close to the centre of town, shops and restaurants and taxis are available.

Arrival and car parking facilities
- The house is located on a quiet one way street opposite public gardens with unrestricted parking on both sides of the street. Close proximity to town can mean that street parking may be limited between the hours of 9 a.m. and 5 p.m. on weekdays. Outside of these times parking in front of the house is very easy.
- In addition, secure parking at the back of the house is available. Please ask at time of booking.
- The gate to the terrace in front of the house is 112 cms/44 inches wide
- The gate to the courtyard from the parking at the back of the house is 86 cms/34 inches wide
- Guests are offered assistance with luggage.
Main entrance and reception
- Access to the front door is via 5 steps with rises of 19 cms/7.5 inches (1 step) and 15 cms/6 inches (4 steps)
- There are handrails to both sides of the steps 160 cms/63 inches apart
- The front entrance to the house is 90 cms/36 inches wide
- The main reception area is 1.50 mtrs / 5 ft wide
- The main reception area is carpeted
- Access to the back door is via 3 steps with rises of 20 cms/8 inches (2 steps) and 15 cms/6 inches (1 step)
- The steps are 110 cms/43 inches wide
- There is no handrail to these steps
- The back entrance to the house is 86 cms/34 inches wide
- Access to the main reception area is via a fire door 80 cms/31 inches wide
- The short hallway leading to the main reception area is 1.35 mtrs/53 inches wide narrowing to 90cms/ 3ft at the juncture of the two
- The hallway like the reception area is carpeted
Public areas
- Guest drawing room leading off the main reception/hallway providing comfortable seating for guests
- There is a slight level change of 3 cms/1 inch from reception hallway to drawing room
- The floor consists of the original stained and polished boards
Public WCs
- There are no additional toilet facilities on the ground or lower ground floors
- There is one toilet on the mezzanine level
- There are 15 stairs to this level
Dining room
- Breakfast is served in the garden room on the lower ground floor
- Flooring is terracotta tiles
- There are 13 stairs down to this room
- There is a continuous handrail
- The stairs are 85 cms/33 inches wide
- Each stair rises 20 cms/ 8 inches
- Furniture can be re-arranged on request
- Square tables have an under space of 65 cms/25 inches but have legs at corners
- Round table has an under space of 75 cms/ 30 inches with no corner legs
- Guests who may have difficulty with the stairs are welcome to take breakfast in the drawing room
- Special diets can be catered for provided that advance notice is given
Laundry
- A laundry service is available to guests – price list on request
- Dry cleaning can be collected any weekday and returned the following day
Shops
- The house is less than a mile from the town centre and market place where a variety of shops will be found
- There is a taxi rank close to the market place
- There is a post office within 50 yards of the house
- There is a flower shop within 100 yards of the house
- There is a pharmacy within 130 yards of the house
- There is a Medical Centre next to the pharmacy
- The hospital with its A &E department is a 3 minute drive away
Bedrooms and en-suites
- There are 5 bedrooms spread across different floors all of which are en-suite
- En-suites are not large enough to afford wheelchair access
- Stairs to the various floors are 90 cms/3ft wide narrowing to 80 cms/32 inches at half landings/turns
- There is a beautiful ,continuous Georgian handrail to the stairs

- All bedding is non-allergenic
- All rooms have upright directors style chairs and glass tables
- Lap top tables (adjustable height) are available on request

Grounds and Gardens
- There is a beautiful flat, sunny guest terrace to the front of the house
- The terrace has a range of garden furniture and umbrellas
- Ashtrays are provided for those guests who wish to smoke
Additional Information
- The house is fully compliant with fire regulations and is totally non-smoking
- Need for assistance for evacuation is checked and noted on arrival
- Assistance dogs, and any other well behaved dogs, are welcome in the ground floor room, if arranged in advance, but only one dog can be taken per let
- Water can be provided on request
- Dogs must not be left in the room unattended
- Dogs can be walked on the fountain gardens opposite the house
- Medication can be refrigerated on request but there is no unsupervised access to this
- Wi-fi is available throughout the house and terrace
- Mobile phone reception is good
- There is good colour contrast between walls and flooring but the house is decorated predominantly in white or magnolia
- Background music is not played in any area of the house
- All rooms have remote control 26 inch LCD flat screen TVs with freeview and radio
